Social Studies 7:  Chapter 7 Test on Thursday.  Chapter 7 Reading Notes and Processing will be due that day.

Social Studies 6:  Chapter 6 Test on Thursday.  Chapter 6 Vocabulary, Reading Notes and Processing will be due that day.

Tests

Please remember that both 6th and 7th grade Social Studies have tests on Tuesday.

News for Halloween Week

Both Social Studies classes will have a test on Friday.  Social Studies 7 will have a test over Chapter 5 and Social Studies 6 will have a test over Chapter 4. 

Mid-October

Social Studies 6-We are working on the factors that affect population density using Canada as an example.  This week the 6th graders will be working on a map activity where they evaluate some of the factors involved in the lifestyles of people who live in different areas throughout Canada.

Social Studies 7-This class is beginning a chapter on Sumerian City-States.  We will be discussing why the city-states were created along with the role that geography had in their location and creation.

Reminder:  The first marking period is winding down.  Please remind your student that they need to make sure that they have all work turned in and have made arrangements to make up anything still missing.

What's new in Social Studies

Social Studies 6:  These classes have been studying thematic maps and their purpose.  We will be having a test on Thursday,  October 4. 

Social Studies 7:  We are currently studying the changes in lifestyle between the Paleolithic and Neolithic Ages.  The comic book project for chapter 3 will be due Friday, October 5.

Talk to Your Children...

With the new school year, the time has come once again to study the theory of evolution in Social Studies 7 (Ancient World History).  This will take place in chapters two and three.  We ask that you speak with your children about your personal and family beliefs on this issue.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

End of the Year

Social Studies 6- These classes will have a test over Chapter 18 during their exam period next week.  Second hour is Monday and sixth hour is Tuesday.

Social Studies Happenings for the Week of May 14, 2012

Social Studies 6:  We are wrapping up Chapter 16 on pollution and preparing for a test on Thursday.  We will then be studying how physical processes shape terrain.

Social Studies 7: We are beginning the study of Ancient Greece with a focus on the development of Democracy. 

News for the Week of April 30, 2012

Social Studies 6 is currently studying the creation and function of the European Union. 

Social Studies 7 is studying Ancient China and will be working in this unit for the next one to two weeks.

Friday the 13th Update

Social Studies 7: We have been continuing our recent study of comparative religions with a chapter on Buddhism.  Please feel free to contact me with questions that might come up about this topic.

Social Studies 6:  We are currently studying adaptation with a focus on how people adapt to living at higher altitudes in the Andes Mountains. 

News for the Week of March 19, 2012

Social Studies 7 is studying the geography of the Indian subcontinent.

Social Studies 6 is taking the chapter 11 test on Tuesday.  They will then begin the study of land use in the Amazon Rainforest.

Social Studies 7: We are continuing our study of Judaism.  This week we will be focusing on Judaism's central beliefs and teachings.

Social Studies 6: This week we will be studying extreme weather patterns with a focus on the Caribbean.

News for the week of February 21, 2012

Social Studies 7 (Ancient World History) will be studying Judaism for the next two weeks.  This is the first in a series of religous studies that we will be undertaking throughout the rest of the year.

Social Studies 6 (Geography) will be starting a study of indigenous peoples in Latin America.

Information for the week of February 6, 2012

6 th Grade Geography will be working with the topic of Spatial Inequality which refers to the unequal access to services and resources within a community.

7th Grade Ancient History is currently working with social classes in Ancient Egypt.

Next week in Social Studies

Social Studies 7 (Ancient History):  We will continue with Chapter 8 studying the Egyptian Pharaohs.  Chapter 8 test will be Wednesday or Thursday. 

Social Studies 6 (Geography):  We will be starting the study or immigration and immigration patterns in Chapter 8. 

The New Semester

We will be starting the new semester on Monday.  Social Studies 7 will be launching a study of the Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt.  Social Studies 6 will be continuing their study of cartograms until Wednesday.  More to come...
